Gavin Coates

A product of the late 1950’s British Baby Boom, cartoonist, illustrator and children’s book author Gavin Coates arrived in Hong Kong in 1982. He worked for some years as a landscape architect during which time he designed the much photographed and popularly enjoyed waterfall in Hong Kong Park.

Better known now for his editorial cartoons and children’s books, he contributes daily to The Standard newspaper and weekly to the regional internet news and analysis site, Asia Times Online. His cartoons were prizewinners in the 2002 and 2003 Human Rights Press Awards organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong Kong Journalists’ Association and Amnesty International.
His services are retained by Insight Dynamics where the principle of a picture being worth a thousand (usually more) words is harnessed to assist corporate change management.

Gavin also visits schools to read and sign his books, take questions and encourage children in their own creative endeavors.
