Gavin Coates A product of the late 1950’s British
Baby Boom, cartoonist, illustrator and children’s book
author Gavin Coates arrived in Hong Kong in 1982. He worked
for some years as a landscape architect during which time
he designed the much photographed and popularly enjoyed waterfall
in Hong Kong Park.
Better known now for his editorial
cartoons and children’s books, he contributes daily
to The Standard newspaper and weekly to the regional internet
news and analysis site, Asia Times Online. His cartoons were
prizewinners in the 2002 and 2003 Human Rights Press Awards
organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Hong
Kong Journalists’ Association and Amnesty International.
His services are retained by Insight Dynamics where the principle
of a picture being worth a thousand (usually more) words is
harnessed to assist corporate change management.
Gavin also visits schools to read and
sign his books, take questions and encourage children in their
own creative endeavors.
